Vietnamese Style BBQ & Banh Mi 越南烤肉(麵包)
*Same recipe for chicken, pork, beef, and seafood
Ingredients (Marinating):
-
Thinly sliced pork (1 lb) *
-
Egg (1)
-
Soy sauce (1 tsp) (preferably light sodium)
-
Wine (2 oz)
-
Sesame oil (1/2 tsp)
-
Sugar (1 tbsp)
-
Vietnamese BBQ Marinade Powder (3 tbsp)
Instructions:
-
Prepare 1 lb of thinly sliced meat. Properly thaw if frozen
-
In a separate clean bowl, measure 3 tbsp of Vietnamese BBQ Marinade Powder
-
Add 1 tsp of soy sauce and ½ tsp of sesame oil
-
Add 2 oz of wine and 1 tbsp of sugar
-
Crack and add 1 egg
-
Mix all the ingredients together until thoroughly combined
-
Add pork one slice at a time to evenly coat meat with marinating sauce and place in a separate container
-
After all the meat are fully soaked, place container of meat in the refrigerator to marinate for 30 minutes to 1 hour or overnight for best taste
(TIP: when marinating large volumes of meat (more than 1 lb), add a little water to the mix if sauce is too thick for easier marinating)
Ingredients (Banh Mi):
-
Vietnamese Marinated Meat
-
Baguette
-
Mayo
-
Pickled Carrot
-
Sliced Cucumber
-
Cilantro
-
Jalapeno
Instructions:
-
Remove marinated meat from refrigerator and heat up the grill
-
If using pan fry, remember to add some vegetable oil to pan so meat won’t stick to the pan
-
Place each slice of meat on the grill and cook both sides evenly until fully cooked
-
Set aside for sandwich prep
-
Lightly toast baguette and cut horizontally across to make sandwich
-
Generously apply mayo, cooked meat, pickled carrot, cucumber, jalapeno, and cilantro (quantity of sides will vary based on preference)
Besides Banh Mi, Vietnamese Style Meat/Seafood works great with vermicelli, rice, and even spring roll.
(*Ingredient measurements should be adjusted based on volume of meat and taste preference.)
